Te Whare Tapa Wha - Hauora

At Tamaki College there are students that are from year 9 to year 13. There are four

dimensions of the English and Maori. They are Taha Tinana (Physical well-being),

Taha Hinengaro (Mental and Emotional well-being), Taha Wairua

(Spiritual well-being), Taha Whanau (Social well-being). 

One important part of well-being for me is my family, my family always needs

support for each other that’s why we take care of each other and we are trying

our best to have a beautiful life and have a better future.

Taha Tinana (Physical well-being) 

My family always wants to play volleyball and tennis outside

to help improve our social and physical well being. This makes a

positive impact on our lives and that's why me and my family are

always happy together. We are always happy for our lives every

time we play and it helps my body too.

Taha Hinengaro (Mental and Emotional well-being) 

Sometimes our family feels that if we have a family problem.

We always talk about it but we can solve it together as one.

That’s why we love each other. We always tell our parents

what our problem is in school. This makes me feel so

happy and special because I know that they are

important to me and I'm important to them too.

Taha Wairua (Spiritual well-being)

Every evening my family always does a rosary for our

safety and for my whole family's safety. Every Christmas

we always celebrate outside and since we came here in

the NZ we just stay at home and try to celebrate it in the

house at least we are complete as a family.

Taha Whanau (Social well-being) 

Our family always loves each other no matter what happens.

We always take care of each other and always support each

other. In school our parents always tell us to focus on what we

are doing to achieve our goals or dreams because we want them

to be proud of us and we can have a beautiful life and a better

future for us.

Understanding and learning about Hauora can help students at

schools be educated and prepared for what they are about to

face in life. Learning about Hauora helps the students to achieve

their goals and to finish schools, so that our parents would be

happy for us. School is the best way for the students to help our l

earning and to help our family for everything. I enjoy health

because it can help me and the other students to learn

about Hauora and it can help us for our future.

Island Skittles - Water Safety Project

Hi my name is Cherry Anne, I'm 13 years old, I'm currently studying at Tamaki College and I'm a Year 9 student. We have a project we called "Team Island Skittles." Our group members are Leanah, Paikea, David, Mary and Mathew.

We have five teams Team Renegade, Team DonkCorn, Team Polys, Team Jax and Team Island Skittles. I'm a member of 'Team Island Skittles.' Our team is trying to teach students who do not know how to swim and to avoid drowning. They should know what to do when you are in this kind of situation and it is important to learn this.

In our project planning, we are trying to increase the learning of Year 10 in water safety lessons. I hope that they become smarter when they are surrounded with water. I hope also that when the pool is done in Tamaki College, they will use this to help the students who do not know how to swim. I hope that our project will become successful and they apply it for help.

At this moment, I think my team is doing well to focus on our assigned tasks and to get our work done as soon as we can. We have different tasks for each person, my task is to have a paragraph about 'Water Safety.' When we finish our task on time, I hope that we'll be doing our action by talking to our teacher and staff of our school if they are gonna support our school project for the year. When this project is done, I hope they have a good impact on a child's life.
