A Reflection of Our Akomanga Kaihanga Journey During Term 2

  Akomanga Kaihanga Journey

Hi My Name is Cherry Bacia, I'm a year 10 and I'm studying in Tamaki College. Today, I'm going to reflect our
Akomanga Kaihanga Journey Group Projects and this happens during term 2. On our group projects we got  team got four members and the name of our team is "Visual Arts" and the people in my team are Leanah, David, Neveah and me.

My team's main idea is "how might we make our school a more vibrant space?". Our point is that we want to make our school more colourful like the other places or just like other schools, we want to make students in our school to be happy, inspired by showing the result of our project challenge, also we make our school more vibrant by painting benches around school. The resources that we used to make our school more vibrant space are paint, aprons, brushes, and drop cloths.

Our design thinking process that we took to answer our how might we question are to "Ideate" and "Prototype". To define our challenge, we had to come up with ideas as a group on how we could make our school environmentally friendly and vibrant. We use ideate because the process we used to figure out what we wanted our project to be about was brainstorming amongst ourselves and each coming up with different ideas that we could implement, and our prototype is that we had to write a proposal for Neil during our prototyping process. We had to make a comparison between the Glen Innes benches and the benches we have around the school for the proposal. Our original project was completely reworked, which was an unexpected outcome. Initially, we planned to hold a competition between houses, with the winning designs being painted on bins throughout the school. Due to lack of time, we chose to concentrate on making our school more colourful.

We were overjoyed because we received positive feedback from students, staff, caretakers, and teachers. We hadn't expected the students to like it, so we decided to paint all of our school's benches in the future or during present. We just need some improvements just like better time management, more participation in group discussions and activities, but our key learning skills is how to write a proposal and how to paint over timber.

When it came time for our showcase, I was so nervous because I knew we needed to be positive when we presented, but I wasn't presented when I read our project. Our families, on the other side, were incredibly proud of us because we did everything we could to demonstrate to them that their children can make our dreams come true and that we are doing the right thing, just like the other groups. We want to make our parents proud, just as we want to make ourselves proud.

We could improve our teamwork and communication skills so that we can complete some group project work on time, and maybe ask someone in our group to help us work out what to do so that we can do it better. We also want to improve is our confidence because we are very shy in front of others and to each other as a team.

Overall, the first rotation of project-based learning during term 2 taught me that we can even help each other as a team and that we need more time to work on our tasks. We also need to improve our shyness into being a positive person or a positive team so that we can do better than we did before. It is important for us to learn these things because they provide us with help and allow us to get to know each other better. Helping yourself is a key word in developing confidence and Dream is also an important word in realising your dreams.
